The Vet Trip

This morning Jacques, Kris, and Casey went to the vet at 9:30 am. They all got a thorough check up, rabies shot, and heartworm testing. Nobody has heartworms and everybody is healthy. I was worried about Jacques. His tail and ears are mostly bald. The breeder I got him from said she kept him in a cage most of the time and he rubbed his tail and ears on the bars. The vet checked and said it is most likely a behavioral issue. The skin is perfectly healthy and is doesn't appear it itch. I don't keep him caged and I've never seen him rub them. There are little wisps of hair growing in each area. Kris and Casey are good to have puppies. Their patellas are great and they are all healthy. yeah!

Velvet, Lillie, and Jelly Bean had vet appointment at 11:00 am. I have been concerned about Velvet. I've been afraid she can't see unless it is bright. She doesn't come upstairs to my bedroom at night unless I turn on the stairway light and call her. Her eyes seem to be getting cloudy. Well, it turns out she is getting a thickening and a bit cloudy, but that is a normal part of aging and does not affect her vision at all. Her vision checked out just fine. The problem, it seems, is she has arthritis in her back legs. Poor baby. It wasn't that she can't see, it is that it hurts her to go up the stairs and she only does so when I call her. I didn't mean to make her come up. I thought she just needed some light and encouragement. I'm to give her an aspirin a day. Another problem with Velvet is she has gained 12 pounds in the past year. Yikes, didn't mean to do that. We did live in the townhouse with a tiny yard over the summer. Between having a tiny yard and her not wanting to move much because it hurts, she has fattened up quite nicely. Poor baby, we'll get her fixed up and get her pain under control. She never even complained.

Jelly and Lillie are just fine. They has negative heart worm tests and got their rabies shots.

Did you notice that I made 2 trips to the vet? I learned the hard way from my previous breeding life not to take a million dogs to the vet at the same time, no matter how good they (the dogs, not the vet) are.
